THE SISTERS OF MERCY

First time at BA

Country: United Kingdom
Genre: GOTHIC ROCK / POST-PUNK

The Sisters of Mercy is a British rock band formed in 1980 in Leeds, which has become one of the key names in gothic rock and still holds a cult status today. Fronted by Andrew Eldritch, whose deep voice and cynical lyrics define the band’s character, they are also known for their signature use of the drum machine Dr. Avalanche, which gives their songs a cold, mechanical rhythm. Albums like First and Last and Always (1985) and Floodland (1987) helped define the gothic rock genre by combining driving rock energy with dark atmospheres and anthemic choruses. Although The Sisters of Mercy have not released a new studio album since the 1990s, their influence on gothic rock, darkwave, and the broader alternative scene is undeniable, and their live shows continue to be regarded as hypnotic experiences.
