The forced isolation of 2020 brought the entire planet to its knees, but for the Atlanta-based quintet Left to Suffer, it served as the ultimate launching pad. Frontman Taylor Barber and his crew stormed onto the scene without a shred of caution, instantly defining a new wave of heavy-duty deathcore that isn't afraid to blend straightforward nu-metal drive with modernized, heavy groove electronics. Their debut record A Year of Suffering (2020) and the subsequent Feral (2023) proved this band doesn't pull any punches. Instead, they aimed a massive steamroller of riffs, uncompromising sub-bass, and a vocal delivery that shifts in a split second from a raw shriek to a tar-thick guttural right at the listener.
On Feral and the follow-up album Leap of Death (2024), Left to Suffer demonstrated their ability to combine ultra-heavy breakdowns with catchy structures using surgical precision. Tracks like "Anger," "Loathe," and "Give Them Death" don't rely on overly complex technicality, but rather on relentless rhythmic pressure, aggressive tempo shifts, and an anthemic energy that acts as a fuse for massive mosh pits. Vocal guest spots featuring names like Will Ramos (Lorna Shore) only underlined the band's position as modern champions of the extreme scene.
Live, Left to Suffer don't put on any overly intricate theater. Taylor Barber commands the stage with unbelievable dominance while the band rolls out a wall of sound that physically vibrates in your chest. Their concerts carry the straightforwardness of classic turn-of-the-millennium nu-metal shows, packed with a modern sound that will unapologetically crush you into the ground.
