HEAVEN SHALL BURN

Country: Germany
Genre: MELODIC DEATH METAL / METALCORE

When Germany's Heaven Shall Burn dropped their debut Asunder back in 2000, the global metalcore wave was only beginning to gather speed. But while American bands embraced Gothenburg melodeath to craft catchy hooks, the Saalfeld crew took a far harsher route. They fused Gothenburg-style riffs with an uncompromising hardcore/punk DIY ethic, strict vegan activism, and anti-fascist convictions. The result was an ironclad sound that has defined heavy European music for over two decades.

Landmark records like Antigone (2004) and Deaf to Our Prayers (2006) set new standards for brutal efficiency. Anthems such as The Weapon They Fear or their crushing cover of Edge of Sanity's Black Tears from the Iconoclast album remain foundational genre texts. The dual-guitar assault of Maik Weichert and Alexander Dietz, anchored by Marcus Bischoff’s searing, unmistakable roar, operates like a precision engine. HSB never relied on clean vocals to break into festival headliner territory; their authority stems from sheer physical sonic pressure, thrash/death urgency, and ambitious songwriting, as proven on the sprawling double album Of Truth and Sacrifice.

A Heaven Shall Burn performance is pure force—a wall of sound coupled with legendary pit intensity that routinely tests audience endurance. When those relentless riffs strike against the brick walls of the fortress, Josefov is in for a thorough structural test.
