Deicide is an American death metal legend from Tampa, Florida, originally formed in 1987 under the name Amon, and led by the charismatic and controversial frontman Glen Benton. From the very beginning, the band established themselves through an uncompromising approach to both their music and lyrics—fast, brutal riffs, relentless drumming, and Benton’s signature deep growl, often layered with demonic vocal overdubs, laid the foundation for a sound that became a blueprint for generations of death metal bands. Lyrically, Deicide have never shied away from provocation: their themes are centered largely on anti-Christian and satanic imagery, which brought them significant controversy and attention even outside the metal scene. Their self-titled debut *Deicide* (1990) and the follow-up *Legion* (1992) are now regarded as absolute classics of the genre and remain among the most influential death metal records of all time. Over the years, the band has gone through several lineup changes, yet Benton’s presence and uncompromising stance have remained the driving force keeping Deicide alive. While their music is often perceived as relentlessly extreme, they have maintained a loyal fan base, and their live shows are renowned for their raw intensity and ferocity. For more than three decades, Deicide have embodied the very essence of death metal—aggressive, dark, provocative, and utterly resistant to compromise.
