When their debut Access All Worlds dropped in 2021, it caused quite a stir in the progressive metal scene. The Danish-Faroese entity Iotunn ("Giant" in Old Norse) didn't just deliver another variation of technical death metal; they presented complex, epic, and thematically "cosmic" music that feels closer to a cinematic soundtrack than a standard album.
At the center of their sound lies the phenomenal Jón Aldará (also known from Hamferð), whose vocal range is a chapter onto itself. He effortlessly switches between cavernous growls and heroic, almost operatic clean singing, lending the tracks a true sense of grandeur. On their latest release, Kinship, Iotunn continue to build cold, atmospheric soundscapes where technically precise riffs blend with melancholy and melody, taking you on a journey across the galaxy.
