BHPL was created in 2020 as a way out of the constraints of living in a time of global pandemic. Past the courtly mysterious creative duo of BJ and M in various hardcore and metal bands and a simultaneous interest in dark electronic music, a new project was born. The name BHPL is derived from the city of Bhopal; in 1984, one of the biggest disasters in world history occurred at a chemical factory. This event is a fitting link between their music and the poetics of their lyrics. With influences ranging from DAF to Swans and Sarin, the duo began writing raw and abrasive electronic music; heavily focused on punchy rhythms and sequential bass lines, complete with distorted vocals. Their first EP of dark EBM/Techno/Acid tracks was released in late 2021 on Tartarus Records. Subsequently they have shared stages with Spit Mask, Doodseskader, Alkerdeel & Tankzilla. Their debut LP Our Love Can Destroy the World, released in January 2025, is a comprehensive collection demonstrating their current form of serving up a heady set at any venue looking for something special and different! Expect an energetic live performance with a few surprises.
