Marduk is a Swedish black metal band founded in 1990 in Norrköping, which quickly established itself as one of the most extreme and controversial acts in the genre. From the very beginning, their goal was to play the fastest and most brutal black metal possible, a vision evident on early releases like Those of the Unlight (1993) and Opus Nocturne (1994). Landmark albums such as Heaven Shall Burn... When We Are Gathered (1996) and Panzer Division Marduk (1999) cemented their reputation as a band obsessed with war, death, and blasphemy. Especially, the last named became synonymous with hyper-fast black metal and is still regarded as a milestone of the genre. Current frontman Mortuus, who joined in 2004, has added a further dimension of darkness and menace to their music.
Marduk have never shied away from provocation but have always remained true to their motto: speed, hatred, and uncompromising aggression. Even after more than three decades, they continue to be one of the pillars of Scandinavian black metal, both inspiring and shocking audiences worldwide.
