Pioneers of the folk metal scene, FINNTROLL created a sound in the late 90s that combined extreme elements of death and black metal with traditional Finnish folk tunes. Their long folk-metal journey began one drunken night in 1997, when Teemu "Somnium" Raimoranta and Jan "Katla" Jämsen combined out-of-tune guitars and brutal vocals with Finnish folk melodies. In the course of their relentless quest, they created an extensive discography with international success.
But fate has not always been kind to the musicians along the way. Alongside the triumphs that have made FINNTROLL one of the biggest names in folk/pagan metal, the band has also experienced tragedy, most notably the death of founding member Somnio. But the band fought through the adversity, evolved and persevered. Now they have seven full-length albums to their name, and not just about the King of Trolls. Their latest album to date, Vredesvävd from 2020 is fittingly a tale of journeys - not only those of Finnish mythology, but also personal ones.
