"A wildly cathartic and brilliantly crafted blast of progressive metal" is how he described the album "Purple" (2015) by the American BARONESS Rolling Stones.

The band formed in 2003 when they booked their own shows and hand-printed their merchandise. Their determination and DIY/punk-ethic brought them much success and awards later on. In 2007, they released their critically acclaimed sludge-feeling debut "The Red Album", which was named "Album of the Year" by Revolver magazine. They followed it up with the more progressive and heavier "Blue Record", which earned them the same accolade, this time from Decibel. On 2012's double album "Yellow & Green", the band really began to open up and explore a much wider range of songs with more melodic vocals and alt-rock arrangements, and more successes were coming. In 2019, the Grammy-nominated band returned with the ambitious "Gold & Grey," an album that triumphantly swirls genre barriers with anthemic alt-metal elements that also dabble in prog, jazz, swirl the waters of space-rock and noise, and pulse with trip-hop while working with 20th century minimalism. Their latest sixth studio album STONE streamlines the multi-genre of their previous album. As vocalist John Baizley describes "STONE is much more lively, more straightforward".
