Amorphis is a Finnish metal band formed in 1990 in Helsinki, and over the course of their long career, they have become one of the most prominent names on the European metal scene. Originally starting out as a death metal act, they soon began incorporating progressive elements, melodic motifs, and inspiration from Finnish mythology, particularly the national epic *Kalevala*. This unique approach gave them a distinctive sound, blending heaviness and melancholy with melodic sophistication and epic atmosphere. A turning point came with the release of *Tales from the Thousand Lakes* (1994), which is still considered a landmark of melodic death metal and showcased the band as innovators capable of pushing genre boundaries. In the following years, Amorphis continued to evolve musically, experimenting with progressive rock influences and strengthening melodic lines, as heard on later albums such as *Under the Red Cloud* (2015) and *Queen of Time* (2018). A key part of their modern identity is charismatic vocalist Tomi Joutsen, whose deep clean singing and powerful growls bring dynamic range and emotion to their music. Even after more than three decades on the scene, Amorphis continue to prove that their music can remain fresh and relevant while staying firmly rooted in Nordic tradition, making them a true legend that continues to inspire new generations of listeners.
