cloak room / deposit
How long do you typically need to wait in a queue to get to the cloakroom? I'm asking since some of the queues last year (e.g. to get coupons) were very long, 20-30mins wait.Shindy said 08/06/2009 16:10
cloak room
well cloak room is a place where you can leave your belongings for approx. 1 EUR. you get a number and you can get your belongings after you show that number. if you leave e.g. a bag you can put something or take out of the bag 3 times without paying an extra fee.so these are not lockers but a place to leave your belongings, guarded 24 hours a day

Robberies
First of all I have to say that BA 2008 was one of the greatest festivals, we have ever been to.The location was great, the billing was incredible (esp. Neurosis, Anathema, Textures, Harmony Bay - WOW!)
The organisation was pretty good and the prices were very moderate, esp. for german guys.
Unfortunatlely, we were also robbed while sleeping in our tents.
But the robbers were at least gentlemen, they took only the money (about 3000czk over all) and cell phones, but left us our passports, credit cards etc :)
We parked our car in josefov, right in front of a large Roma family and nothing hapened to it. We think, that the robbers were chzech festival guests because no one of our chzech neighbour were robbed, just us foreigners. We were camping at the very end of the camping area, close to the small bridge, so its unlikely that some roma came all the way to us.
Next time we will NOT TALK GERMAN on the camping site and deposit our shit in the safes
but we definetly will return next year to this hell of a festival!
Thanks to all the guys who made this possible, esp. to shindy who has hosted and acompanied this web forum all the time very patently!

thanks for your suggestions - some of the topics you've mentioned will be for sure solved for next year…thanks also to be an open minded person, I guess the festival is dedicated to such people as you are…

experiences
Our experiences about the festival:first the few negative things:
-it would have been fine to have an ATM automat at the festival area
-the very few showers could have cause comfort-problems in hotter weather
-the only really bad thing was the little hill covered with a lot of mud, we had to take really long walks to reach our tents sometimes, I wonder what would be the situation in really hard rain… You should get a bobcat and make a better, safe route between the camping area and the stages, and cover it with plastic for example - but at least the mud caused some really funny moments also:D
-it's really bad to read that phones, cash etc were stolen - of course it's impossible to “erase” this things off the festivals, I think if people don't wanna use the cloakrooms, they have to care about their stuff alone. E.g. I always were my hip bag with my phone cash driving licence papers of the car etc, so it never can be stolen.
-you should make the stages higher next year. I'm not short (182 cm), but sometimes it was really hard to be able to see the bands, you shouldn't make the ground in front of the stages straight.
-I was really sad, that Anaal Nathrakh cancelled their show, Berzerker really sucked in my opinion. But these things happen
-the band which was between Kataklysm and Sodom (2 incredible bands) really-really sucked, metal can be really funny, e.g. Die Apokalyptischen Reiter or Excrementory Grindfuckers and so on, but these guys were pathetic, I really hope that I don't have to see them anymore………..
the positive things:
-the running order was always perfect, I can't remember any band who were late.
-the sound was almost always excellent (at least compared to other festivals). There were very few bands, where the sound was bad.
-the merch-part was quite big, they had normal prices.
-the video wall was excellent, we really enjoyed it, especially Jig-Ai playing:D - the only bad thing was that Hellhammer of Mayhem is always covered by his drums, and as the cameramen were on the stage, they should have record also him playing, as he's one of the best drummers of the world!
-the coupon-solution for eating-drinking was really comfortable, it was great, that we didn't have to operate with real money, it was quite simple, also there were quite a range choice of foods
-the visitors were extremely sympathic to me compared to other fests. We saw many “older” people, aged about 40-50 years (the white-haired ol man in Korpiklaani-shirt was killer:D Also some guys with wheelchairs, it made me really happy to see, that they come to the fest, people care about them and so on. Respect for them! Also there were many people, who didn't look like so called “classic metalheads”, but they were interested in the bands. Also it was really nice to see, that the crowd was curious not only for the death- and black metal bands, but also for Agnostic Front, Anathema, Paradise Lost and so on, everybody was really open-minded. Also we didn't saw any fights between the people. It was also great, that the crowd wasn't full of 16-18 year old “rebel” metalheads, people were older in general, and the “going to a fest” term didn't mean for them, that the only goal of it is to get drunk as soon as possible. It was a really fine experience with the Czech people!!
-last but not least the invited bands made BA to one of the best festivals of this year, for excellent price!!
I also gotta tell you that the negative things I wrote weren't really annoying (except the mud), they're just advices for next year! You also should know that we came from Hungary with 4 cars and a minibus, and all of my friends were really satisfied with the festival, so it's not the opinion of only one person! So we would like to thank you guys for organising the fest, wish you some calm days to have rest, and promise you that next year we'll return!!
Wishing you all the best!
lev from Budapest, Hungary

theives
well we have been facing a similar problem last year too. we have been looking for some reasonalbe solutions but there are some issues that are making it more complicated. simply, there is no easy solution…1/ the road in the camp is a public road. so no reatrictions e.g.only wristband marked people allowed are applicable
2/ let's say we fence the camping only - not the road. would this be solution when the festival visitors are theives? please note this is not just a hypotetical thought. I am very sad to say that some of the theives were regullar festival visitors! this information is confirmed by police. too bad.
3/ leave your belongings at the cloak rooms would be a good option. however only a few did so. still wondering why only a few people don't mind to spend 30CZK to keep their belongings safe. You can loove way too more if you get robed.
4/ most of the roberies were done during the sleep. never leave your cash, cell phones etc. near your head. put then into your sleeping bags to the bottom. a smart theif can steal your belongings without waking you up when left near your head. but a theif can hardly steal anything that is inside your sleeping bag while sleep. be smarter than theives!
5/ as the number of roberies is alarming we will be looking for any solution both with our security and police but first and foremost: don't give theives any chance by leaving your belongings in the tents.

well, some of my tent-neighbours were robbed at night, while sleeping. they lost all money and cell-phones. why is it that anyone cand enter the camping area. At metalcamp, you cand enter the camping area only if you have a wristband. Also some security is necesary!Rambo said 19/08/2008 14:34
stolen things...
to me and my friend were stoled a pair of shoes (very dirty shoes!!!) and a bag. We were sleeping in our tent and I opened my eyes and I saw a man inside, I shout him and he leaved away….I think we were lucky than other metalheads, but those think don't have to happen!!I hope that for next Brutal Asasult organisation will consider this problem….

i was lucky this year
I was lucky this year and wasn't robbed. Neither was any of my friends with whom I was there. However, I belive it is a very good idea to have the whole camp site fenced or sth and some people walking at night just to make sure that the rest can sleep safely. It's a shame so many people lost their money and other belongings. I do hope this type of crime will be prevented next year.Evandro said 18/08/2008 18:39
Iowa
I saw one girl arriving on body surfing and the security had been very gentle, but I saw they beat very “brutal” the guys.ps are you a female ??? :-)

crowd surfing
I only performed one crowd surf at this festival, and for me it was no problem 3 guards took me when i was coming down right after that 2 of the left me while the other one showed me the way out like always. But i saw a video with stage dives last year with all that remains and was really looking forward for that because you never se that at these big concerts, but i guess that it was a one time experience for that lucky guy who got up on the stage.
I guess i will head down to Hellfest next year where the pit's and crowd looks real great on the videos ive seen (and i can't complaine on the band list either)

Positive/negative
I'm arring now at home (Torino-Italy).I knew many people that have seen lost their money during the night.
Me too , I suggest for next festival to allow the enter ONLY to the people with bracialets.
Another thing: I didn't appreciate the violence of security during the “body surfing”.
It's terrificant to see 3 men of 80/100 kgs beating one kids of 16/17 years, only because he had been able to arrive to the Pit making “Body surfing”.
In every festivals when the boys arriving in the pit, the Security beat a small shot on the shoulders of the boy and him (very happy to be able to do a goal) goes immediately to the exit.
I have seen very bad actions from security.
I hope that the management of Brutal assault (very good) would change the disposals concerning public order, we are in a Metal festival not on the war, and the guys are in right to do the “Body surfing”.
My total personal opinion of Brutal assault festival you could read on :
www.themurderinn.it. (within 20 days, I hope)
Anyway my final opinion of this festival is 70% favourable, but please help us to write only sweet thinghs.
Write later.

agreed
I didn't have any problems with robberies, although we had our camp trashed and all of our tents torn to pieces by some rabid neighbours (all festival-attendees so nothing that the proposed solution would've helped against, and I guess nothing that one can completely remove the risk of at any festival, or anywhere at all), ultimately forcing us to leave the camp site and sleep in our car. But, even prior to this, I noticed that it was strange that anyone could access the camp site at will. I really think the camping should be restricted to festival goers.

Dear Brutal Assault Team, this year´s festival was great again except for the weather, for which you can´t be blamed.
The only negative point - and this is a huge one - is the huge amount of robberies on the camping ground. From my group, more than €500 and a mobile phone were stolen during the night while those people were sleeping in their tents. Clearly, you have to do something about this because leaving cash and mobile phones in a depository is not an option as one needs those things during the festival. My proposal for improvement is: Make the camping ground only accessible to people owning a festival ticket. I know that this is a huge effort, but it is the only way I see to improve the situation and to keep the people coming to Brutal Assault.
Please think about it and stay brutal,
Philippe
